Raised in a small mid-western town to strict religious parents, oh and yes my daddy is a preacher. Oh my, I know what you are thinking and for the most part your thoughts are true!
Married at eighteen, birthed my first daughter by twenty and divorced by twenty-three. It was 1993 and life came at me fast. I found myself homeless with no family support, no social network to speak of and getting creative was my only option. Learning to co-parent with my former husband, who had the full support of my family was difficult to say the least. I made so many mistakes along the way but always kept moving forward with faith, hope and a lot of grace guiding me.
In 1999, I had a beautiful baby boy who I placed for adoption. My open adoption experience has been all love, heart wrenching, painful, beautiful and holy ordained. So much more to say about this part of my life.
My oldest daughter is now thirty years old, professional basketball player, worldwide traveler and married to her college sweetheart (also a professional basketball player) and Alex is a wonderful man. Raising her as a single mother and learning to co-parent and also navigating the emotionally difficult decisions of an open adoption, I have so much of my heart to share with other momma's! I see you, I feel you and "we" got this!
Now I am raising my ten year old daughter, Ava. She was my surprise child. I am ever so grateful for her and the joy she brings me. Co-parenting with her father has been challenging but having the experience of co-parenting with my oldest child, I have found new ways of navigating the ever changing parental landscape.
My prayer is that you find inspiration, hope and grace in the framework of my service to you.
In love and grace,
Deborah Lenee'
